Job description

This is an unpaid, volunteer position on a political campaign in Brooklyn, New York. Our candidate is running as Democrat for New York City Council in District 47 to represent Coney Island, Seagate, Bensonhurst and Gravesend. Our candidate is running a mission-based campaign and is looking for a volunteer to assist with the planning and implementation of campaign events. This is an excellent opportunity for a college student or recent graduate to gain event planning, project management, and political experience.

The ideal candidate is an individual with a desire to gain work experience in the field of event planning, project management, and/or politics. Brooklyn residency is a major plus. There are no set hours to work; the Event Manager will be able to maintain full-time employment while volunteering on their own schedule. The Event Manager will be able to work remotely but is expected to attend campaign meetings and facilitate campaign events which typically occur on weekends about 2-3 times per month. The Event Manager will work primarily with the Candidate to fulfill volunteer duties and will report to the Candidate and the Campaign Treasurer.

The time commitment for this position is about 3-4 hours per week until December 2021.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Plan events from idea to implementation such as fundraisers, press events, and other campaign related events.
  • Research and evaluate venues, vendors, and negotiate contracts.
  • Manage event logistics and ensure events are successful; plan ahead, anticipate issues, and resolve them.
  • Analyze constituent behavior and feedback and adjust events accordingly.
  • Supervise event volunteers and manage volunteer responsibilities to maximize efficiency.
  • Develop creative strategies and tactics to get the word out about our candidate and our campaign events.
  • Work with the Marketing Director to create marketing material such as website banners, hard copy brochures and advertisements (print, web, billboard, radio, etc.) for campaign events.
  • Measure and report on the performance of campaign events, gain insight, and assess against goals.
  • Work with the Campaign Treasurer to manage event budgets.
  • Build relationships and partner with key industry players, agencies and vendors.

  • Desired skills and experience:

  • College students and recent graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply for this position.
  • Undergraduate degree in Management, Project Management, Public Relations, Political Science, or similar field; Graduate degree is a plus.
  • Experience with event planning and project management.
  • Experience working on a political campaign.
  • A sense of aesthetics and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and accomplish goals.
  • Fluency in two or more languages.
