Job description

\"How do you spell love?\" \"You don't spell it, you feel it.\" With just 2-3 hours a week, you can feel love and enrich your own life by visiting neighbors receiving care from Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice. No special skills required - just the willingness to share your heart.

You'll provide a comforting and caring presence, much- needed companionship and breaks for caregivers, read, play cards and games, share stories, share military experiences, act as a friend.Visit with Samaritan's patients and families in their homes or in long-term care facilities in your local communities. Provide a comforting presence, companionship, read, play cards and games, share stories, share military experiences, act as a friend or neighbor. Veterans needed to visit fellow Veterans.

Volunteers visit once a week and do not provide any hands-on care. Work full-time? Weekend visits are greatly appreciated! Must be at least 18 years old. No experience or healthcare background needed. Complimentary training is provided. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum Age: 18
  • One-year commitment
  • Volunteer Orientation and Training
  • Medical Clearance:
  • Initial Tuberculosis test (paid for by Samaritan)
  • Titers to check immunity for chicken pox, measles, and German measles (being immune not required to volunteer) (paid for by Samaritan)
  • Annual flu vaccine
  • Initial health screen
  • Ongoing: Monthly Documentation, Annual Education
  • We ask that all volunteers bring the following qualities to their work at Samaritan: good communication and listening skills, a nonjudgmental attitude, reliability, flexibility, and compassion.
