Job description

PURPOSE:  To gather, build up, and send members of the church and the Roswell community to join in Christ’s mission.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Oversee a comprehensive and effective program of mission outreach for the church. 

  • Lead the strategy for implementing the Missional Goals associated with the Strategic Vision approved by the Session in 2017 using the mission philosophies adopted by RPC.
  • Manage staff and programming for Neighborhood Action Ministry. Neighborhood Action Ministry is a partnership with communities such as Aspen Pointe, Groveway Community, and Oaks at Holcomb Bridge, that strives to build trusting relationships, advocates for equality and education, and empowers all to recognize and use their gifts to glorify God.
  • Provide staff support for the Mission Outreach Council and represent the Council to the church staff and congregation.
  • Organize, coordinate, and/or facilitate partnerships with organizations, ministries, and groups (i.e., local and global mission partners, community development initiatives, embedded leaders, etc.) that align with RPC’s priorities and practices of healthy and holistic mission.
  • Invite and equip members and others to offer their time and talent for mission as a grateful response to God's love.
  • Oversee and implement opportunities for the congregation to engage in relationships with God's people through mission trips and local acts of service.
  • Lead the congregation in assessing local, regional, national, and global mission opportunities.
  • Train and recruit leaders who will reflect Christ's compassion, humility, and servant heart while trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit.

    2.          Coordinate with Mission Outreach Council and Financial Resource Ministry on generosity for mission funding.

  • Serve as a leader in the continued development of a culture of generosity for mission funding.
  • Serve as team member for financial campaigns for mission funding: Generosity Campaign, golf tournament, Advent giving, and Mission Auction.
  • 3.      If ordained, fulfill other pastoral responsibilities as required.

  •  Work as a team member with other staff.
  •  Assist regularly in worship services and preach approximately two to three Sundays each year.
  • Offer pastoral care and counseling to members.
  • Attend Session meetings and act as primary staff liaison to the Mission Outreach Council.
  • Participate in activities of the Presbytery.
  • Attend staff meetings and retreats.
  • Conduct home/family visitation.
  • Visit those in the hospital as coordinated with the other pastors.
  • Serve periodically as Pastor on Call to address emergencies requiring a pastoral response.
  • Visit and take communion to the homebound as coordinated with the other pastors.
  • Teach as available on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and other days.
  • Perform baptisms, weddings, and/or funerals as requested.
  • Other duties as needed.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    The Associate Pastor for Mission Outreach should have at least the following qualifications:

  • Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological seminary.
  • Ordained or ordainable in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
  • At least two years experience in church work (though not necessarily in ordained ministry).
  • Ability to work with members of the staff, the congregation, the Session, and various committees and ministries in the development and operation of an effective program of mission outreach.
  • Has led a life of integrity and Christ-centered faith that demonstrates his/her ability to build healthy and responsible family, social and professional relationships.
  • Experience leading a ministry within a large, suburban church with multiple staff members is preferred.
  • Successful leadership skills in budgeting and managing staff and volunteers with the ability to mentor and empower others to develop their spiritual gifts to be applied in the life of the church; management skills include setting clear expectations, providing consistent follow-up, feedback, and recognition with direct reports, volunteers and church office personnel.
  •  A calling and strongly felt desire to work with adults, families, youth and the multi-generational church family.
  • Is a strong team player, working alongside pastoral staff, administrative personnel and lay leaders.
  • Organized and attentive to administrative and narrative details; ability to develop, promote, and manage projects.
  • A sense of humor and flexibility.
