Job description

The membership and development manager is responsible for key functions of the organization’s membership program and fundraising efforts, and supports other operational aspects, such as database and website management, communications, and program planning.



RESPONSIBILITIES


Membership

  • Manage the membership program, including annual renewal and recruitment, cultivation, stewardship, and retention.
  • Build relationships with members and motivate them to participate in ACSO’s programs and services.
  • Write and/or edit member communication and marketing materials, analyzing effectiveness and implementing new strategies.
  • Collect and share information from the field (success stories, challenges, needs, trends, etc.).
  • Develop strategies for member benefits and dues structure that grow the Association’s reach and effectiveness.
  • Manage membership data and revenue and report on progress to goals, demographics, etc.
  • Manage membership activity in the database, including processing membership payments, updating profiles, and troubleshooting member inquiries.
  • Working in tandem with the executive director, respond to member requests for research or technical support, providing resources, guidance, and connection to experts as needed.
  • Participate in program planning, including networking events, seminars, webinars, confabs, etc.


  • Development

  • Collaborate with the executive director to design, implement, and manage diverse fund development activities.
  • Support strategies and activities for individual donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Identify members who can increase leadership donations.
  • Develop special recognition opportunities with the intent to retain or upgrade donors.
  • Research foundations and corporations for new potential funding partners.
  • Write grant proposals in accordance with funder guidelines, monitor current grants to ensure that anticipated outcomes are achieved, and provide timely reports and evaluations to funders in accordance with grant agreements.
  • Process all donation payments through the database and ensure that all donors receive gift acknowledgement letters.


  • Annual Conference

  • Work as a key member of the team to ensure that conference is successfully planned, implemented, and evaluated.
  • Working with a graphic designer, create the onsite printed program.
  • Oversee the Registration and Exhibitor Area and act as the first stop for conferees’ questions and concerns.
  • Prepare materials and oversee the packing and transportation of materials from the office to the conference location.
  • Help facilitate any donor-related events or recognition efforts as well as any onsite fundraising initiatives at conference.
  • Help manage awards presentations and logistics around the awardees.


  • Other

  • Serve as primary writer and editor of ACSO digital and print pieces and supervise any outside vendors in their preparation.
  • Administer and maintain content on ACSO’s website.
  • Support the executive director with board meetings.
  • Supervise summer intern.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and at least three years of progressively responsible association or nonprofit experience;
  • Experience with grant writing is preferred;
  • Excellent research skills and communication skills – both verbal and written;
  • Some statewide travel required to meet members, attend board meetings and Annual Conference;
  • Experience with with an industry-standard database is essential;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a creative and positive approach to problem solving;
  • Ability to thrive in a small nonprofit with a small team, some of whom work remotely;
  • Knowledge and appreciation of music, especially orchestral or classical, is highly desired.
