Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development and Communications Associate’s responsibilities will include:


Fundraising/Development

  • Participate in the foundation and corporate giving program by conducting prospect research, report generation, and providing writing and editing support to the Development and Communications Director (Dev. Comm. Director)
  • Assist fiscal staff to help develop budgets and manage proposal and report submissions
  • Assist program staff to help develop program plans and determine realistic goals to present to funders as well as to track and understand grant progress
  • Collaborate with the Dev. Comm. Director, Executive Director and other staff members on special events, including the annual gala and donor site visits
  • Coordinate gift tracking and maintenance of the constituent database (Little Green Light) including: data entry, creating new records, entering revisions and updates, adding notes and actions, coding gifts, drafting and sending donor acknowledgements, generating mailing lists, running queries and reports, and filing all donor documentation and acknowledgment correspondence
  • Generate all fundraising reports including: giving reports, donor history reports, and other reports requested by the Dev. Comm. Director and/or Executive Director

  • Communications

  • Support all direct mail solicitations, including the annual year-end appeal, gala invitations, and appeals for other special campaigns and events
  • Craft and execute the communication of strong, positive messages about Extreme Kids programs, mission, activities and results to external constituents via website and social media content, press releases and newsletters
  • Track all communications reports including: audience patterns and habits, engagement statistics, and other insight reports requested by the Dev. Comm. Director
  • Conduct outreach in the community to build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, elected officials and other stakeholders, in collaboration with Dev. Comm. Director
  • Participate actively in monthly team meetings between the programs and communications teams

  • IDEAL EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES

    The Development and Communications Associate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of non-profit fundraising / development experience, or relevant work experience required
  • Additionally, one year of non-profit communications experience preferred
  • Experience working with a database and donor management system such as Little Green Light and Flipcause, or other similar software
  • Excellent computer skills: Windows fluency, Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), e-mail programs (MailChimp), social media applications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google), websites (Squarespace), photo/video editing software, graphic design tools (Canva, Photoshop and/or InDesign)
  • Experience creating strategic messaging via social media and web applications to engage audiences, increase visibility and raise money
  • Ability to be self-directed while equally comfortable working collaboratively as a key member of a dynamic, yet small, team
  • Ease interacting across different generations and audiences; enjoys building relationships
  • Ability to thoroughly and thoughtfully carry out tasks and projects delegated by the Dev. Comm. Director as well as offer creative ideas and strategies for advancing Extreme Kids’ development and marketing goals
  • Strong attention to contextual detail, especially in donor and data management
  • Comfortable with meeting clear goals, plans and deliverables
  • Adaptable and willing to take on new tasks and responsibilities as they arise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative thinker and storyteller with the ability to persuasively communicate Extreme Kids’ mission to external audiences
  • Fluent Spanish speaker, a plus plus plus
  • Passion for social justice work and a person-first approach to working alongside people with disabilities and their families
  • Familiarity with NYC’s foundation and corporate funding landscape a plus
