Support schools and child care centres by teaching educational activities and developing the children’s communication skills in the stunning, mountainous city of Pokhara.
What will I be doing?
Volunteers help to teach disadvantaged children in the Himalayan city of Pokhara. Teaching volunteers may work at child care centres, schools, after school tutoring and the Women’s Refuge. The role is varied and may include:
Teaching placements require volunteers to prepare and teach classes with minimal support or guidance from the school so this placement is best suited to confident volunteers, ideally with some teaching experience. Volunteers with little experience are equally as valuable but are advised to do a TEFL or LRRT course.
How will I make a difference?
Education is key to solving many of the root causes of poverty and by providing additional English tuition, volunteers are directly improving the children’s prospects.
The schools have limited resources so volunteers are able to support the teachers by running additional sessions to help improve the children’s English communication skills which tend to be weak. Without the help of volunteers they would rarely be able to offer group sessions, sporting activities or creative learning options so any additional support from volunteers is greatly appreciated.
The project has been able to encourage and develop new creative talents and improve the children’s self-esteem as well as broaden their horizons through new teaching methods and teacher training sessions.
